Building Mechanical Engineer

Your role will include building and managing relationships with clients, in-house teams, and contractors while providing design and consulting services that are needed by facility managers and owners throughout the life cycle of facilities. Services that you will provide include HVAC and Plumbing design for new and existing facilities, Energy
Audits and Reports, and Building Commissioning.
Specific design related services include:
- HVAC Equipment selection, specifications, and layout
- Ductwork sizing and layout
- Plumbing system fixtures selection, specifications and piping layout
- Fire suppression system specifications
- Energy Savings
Skills, Abilities, Requirements, and Preferences
BS in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 3 years of related design and project management
experience is preferred. A Professional Engineering license is preferred, or the ability to obtain a PE
license within one year is required. LEED Accredited Professional, Energy Manager Certification, and
Qualified Commissioning Agent are preferred.
As a mechanical engineer you will in general be required to demonstrate a high standard of
professionalism, client focus/customer service, and ownership/responsibility; be resourceful and flexible,
effective at handling multiple tasks; have strong presentation, written, and verbal skills; and be able to
effectively delegate while working in a collaborative format with multiple team members.
Specifically you will be required to:
- Listen to our clients needs and independently provide value to our clients by evaluating options based the client’s needs and desires, first cost, life cycle cost, and energy usage.
- Communicate your design recommendations to our clients, project team, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
- Work alone on projects, or effectively lead other mechanical staff to design and detail the mechanical systems that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated, and that the quality assurance measures have been followed.
- Ensure that the mechanical design on projects conform to the requirements of the applicable codes.
- Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements.
- Provide design fee estimates, and then effectively manage the mechanical work to completion within the budget established.
- Effectively interact with construction personnel providing needed direction and observation.
- Climb ladders and stairs to verify field conditions at heights over 15 feet.
- Initiate contact with potential new clients
- Maintain appropriate contact with our existing clients so that they think of our firm when our services our needed.
- Lead in the development of new services or markets needed by our clients.
- Travel out of town or out of the United States from time to time.
The Physical and Ergonomic Requirements of this position are as follows:
- Lifting/carrying: Carrying light loads related to filed measurement equipment, equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less.
- Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plant and construction sites at any time of the year.
- Walking/Climbing: Ability to ascend multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
- Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3 dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted.
- Hearing: Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
- Physical exertion: Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
- Breathing: Ability to work while wearing a respirator of self contained breathing apparatus.
